Technology Upgrade

Integrating, leveraging and communicating.

Don’t worry, technology has the answers

As businesses develop, they adopt new practices, face different challenges, and solve countless problems; it’s the way it has always been. This can be organic, by design or through necessity when opportunities and risks present themselves.  At some point on this timeline business leaders and their teams turn attention to technology, as a way of enabling, securing, and leveraging.

It is often the case that growing businesses develop iteratively, learning through doing and applying real-time experience to improve and resolve as they go.  This is effective and efficient and naturally brings the team with the business as it grows; a vital component of effective change-management. However, there are several questions to ask:

·What happens when larger or faster change is required?

·Are there better ways to approach this?

·What is opportunity and/or risk costs involved?

·Do we know what impact the current technology has on the business?

·Is there a way to evaluate to help decide what is best for your business?

We know that an important factor in any successful business is where and indeed where not to spend resources.

Technology can give a huge competitive advantage when properly specified, implemented, and utilised, but it is equally enormously costly (both in time and expenditure), and it is almost never a clear and concise subject matter. It impacts every member of the team, clients, suppliers, and customers. This makes its risk factor larger than most other strategic business

Do you need a technology upgrade?

We work with organisations to gain a clearer picture, seek out the best options and evaluate the impact & ROI potential from implementation, covering Business, human & financial parameters. We are then in a strong position to make solution recommendations and assist in the selection, implementation We also support in the changes needed in the organisation as this happens. This is our proven approach that helps to ensure that our clients get the results that they are looking for and use their resources efficiently.:

Step 1. Get the facts.

It is important to define the starting point accurately and we do this through an efficient and thorough discovery. It gives a very clear picture of the ‘as is’ position the issues, opportunities, risks, and objectives. This report defines the scope for the project next steps.

Step 2. Define the options

Once the starting position is defined we will be able to evaluate the best ways to proceed:

  • If we find that the impact of a change project would not be viable or that the way the business is developing its improvement is sufficient, we will identify this and perhaps suggest some improvements that could be made to enhance the way this is done.

  • In some cases, we find that the change required would be best developed from within the organisation. In these cases, it is unlikely that the business has all the required capabilities in place. We will review the options and give best recommendations based on our findings. The options could be a full-time employee, a fractional team, or an agency.

  • This is to make a full specification which will allow the business to approach suppliers with an RFQ to gain costs and timeline for the Technology solution.

  • Once a scope is made with the discovery process, a procurement exercise can be carried out. Further detail discovery may be required to gain robust estimates; however, this can be done as part of the procurement phase.

  • This is the ‘lean engineering’ approach to continual improvement. We work with organisations and their teams to carry out a program of change in the form of a series of discreet sprints to make incremental improvements.

Each of these options have their merits and disadvantages based on the specific circumstances of a business being evaluated. The options can be plotted on a timeline with key milestones and critical outcomes to help with the selection.

Each stage of the process is designed to give options for our clients to consider and with the outputs make informed and sensible decisions. We work to make decisions logical, always with increasing opportunities and reducing risks. Once the development choice is selected, we can set out a detailed plan of next steps to suit the scope of the project and the business objectives.

Each development path has unique benefits and is handled individually. The objectives of the paths are the same, the approach and benefits are different.

Step 3. Selection of a development path
